Race Report

RACE-1 THE WATERFORD 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1500 METRES (36)

1 Courier Specailty(L Corrales) - After entering the back straight had to be restrained from the heels of 2 NgwahSweetheart.
3 Golden Wai (K H Yu) - Slow to muster speed.
7 Destiny Flight (S Nakano) - Approaching the 1300 metres, had to be steadied from the heels of 8 Winnie Star. (See inquiry report) Approaching the 700 metres became unbalanced and lost some ground when momentarily racing tight to the inside of 3 Golden Wai.
8 Winnie Star (Apprentice X C Liang) - Shifted in when under pressure passing the 200 metres, resulting in the rider having to stop riding and correct his mount.
11 Fortune Wai Wai (C L Cheung) - Was placed in restricted room and became unbalanced approaching the 1300 metres. Broke down approaching the 1000 metres, sustained an injury to the left foreleg and was humanely euthanized.
12 Star Akia (Apprentice Tesuri) - Stood flatfooted when the gates were released and lost some ground. Was placed in restricted room and became unbalanced approaching the 1300 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired an incident approaching 1300 metres. It was established that 7 Destiny Flight had to be eased when taken in by 8 Winnie Star (Apprentice X C Liang), which shifted in when not quite clear before being corrected by its rider. During this incident 12 Star Akia and 11 Fortune Wai Wai were placed in restricted room and became unbalanced. In issuing a reprimand to Apprentice X C Liang, Stewards were satisfied that he made an effort to correct his mount and were also of the view that 1 Courier Specailty which was racing to the inside of 7 Destiny Flight had shifted out slightly at the time of the incident.
