Race Report

RACE-2 THE NIGHTMARCH RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1050 METRES (98)

2 Easy Ace (R Maia) - From its wide barrier, was caught wide throughout.
4 Organic Winner (C Perkins) - Approaching the 800 metres, bumped with 7 Handsome Joyful. Near the 600 metres, had to be checked and lost ground. (See inquiry)
6 Happy Happy Happy (K H Yu) - Laid in throughout the straight.
7 Handsome Joyful (C L Cheung) - Was slow to begin, as a result lost ground.
8 Chess Expert (W H Lao) - Trainers N Moore / G W Moore were informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 600 metres. C L Cheung, rider of 7 Handsome Joyful, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that near the 600 metres, he permitted his mount to shift out abruptly, resulting in 4 Organic Winner having to be checked. C L Cheung was suspended from riding in races for 1 race day, covering the racemeeting on Saturday, 24 February 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea, the level of interference and carelessness, and other mitigating factors. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
