Race Report

RACE-4 「VIEWFUL GROUP」CHARITY TROPHY RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1000 METRES (191)

3 Chinese Scholar (K K Lai) –Near the 100 metres shifted out and brushed 8 Florence Elite which became unbalanced momentarily.
4 Hopefully Tomorrow (W H Lao) –Raced four wide without cover throughout.
6 Happy Bunny (L Salles) –Resaddled behind the barriers.
8 Florence Elite (B Yamzon) –Dipped when the gates were released.
10 Golden Bullet (A Calder) –Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
11 River Colour (K W Leong) –Passing the 800 metres had to be restrained when placed in restricted room by 7 Sweet Korean which shifted in slightly before being straightened by its rider. Approaching the 500 metres was restrained when awkwardly placed close to the heels of 7 Sweet Korean.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
“Correct Weight” was delayed to allow the Stewards to consider the following objections:

An objection lodged by Jockey C F Chan the rider of 7 Sweet Korean, 4th placed getter against 1 The Might (L Corrales) being placed 2nd for alleged interference inside the 50 metres. On the evidence it was established that approaching the winning post 1 The Mighty shifted in resulting in 7 Sweet Korean being tightened for room and having to be checked. After taking into account the beaten margin of a neck by 1 ¼ lengths and the proximity to the winning post, the Stewards could not be satisfied that a reversal of placing was warranted and the objection was dismissed.

An objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 1 The Mighty (2nd placed getter) against the winner 6 Happy Bunny (L Salles) for alleged interference inside the 200 metres. On the evidence, it was established that near the 50 metres, 6 Happy Bunny shifted out when clear of 1 The Mighty. 1 The Mighty then changed course to the inside of 6 Happy Bunny and approaching the winning post shifted out slightly in an attempt to relieve tightening to 7 Sweet Korean (C F Chan) and made contact with 6 Happy Bunny which also shifted in slightly. As the Stewards believed that the incident was attributable to both runners and furthermore taking into account the proximity to the winning post and that the Stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered was greater than the beaten margin of ½ a length, the objection was dismissed. “Correct Weight” was declared.

At a later inquiry, it was established that 1 The Mighty after establishing a run to the inside of 6 Happy Bunny then shifted in away further from the gelding tightening the running of 7 Sweet Korean. At this time Jockey L Corrales attempted to relieve the pressure to 7 Sweet Korean, however was prevented from doing so by 6 Happy Bunny which had shifted in slightly. Under all the circumstances and bearing in mind Jockey L Corrales’ actions in attempting to relieve the pressure to his inside, the Stewards were not satisfied that a charge of careless riding was warranted on this occasion.
