Race Report

RACE-4 THE REEFTON RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (34)

2 Clown Master (B Yamzon) –Was slow to begin.
3 Giant Steps (W H Lao) –Was slow to begin.
4 So Happy (L Corrales) –Raced three wide without cover. Hampered approaching the winning post.
5 Truely Love (R Curatolo) –Was slow to begin. Rider reported his mount failed to respond to his riding and he was unable to offer any real explanation for the poor performance today.
7 Golden Champ (J Cordero) –Was very slow to begin (2L). Checked when tightened for room near the 1200 metres. Approaching the 600 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of 8 Luen Yat Sure Win.
9 Mission Fame (H Lam) –Disappointing. Rider reported his mount failed to respond to his riding.
10 Magician Code (A Calder) –Approaching the winning post was inconvenienced by 4 So Happy which had been taken out by 8 Luen Yat Sure Win.
11 Four Season Health (W T Pao) –Raced keenly through the early and middle stages.
12 River God Choi (K W Leong) –Raced four wide without cover.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Prior to “Correct Weight” the Stewards viewed the patrol film of the concluding stages to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf of the connections of the 4th placed getter, 4 So Happy (L Corrales) against 8 Luen Yat Sure Win (W L Ho) the 2nd placed getter. As the Stewards did not believe an objection could be successful given the beaten margin, “Correct Weight” was declared. It was established that over the concluding stages 4 So Happy was taken out by 8 Luen Yat Sure Win which shifted out under pressure. Jockey W L Ho the rider of 8 Luen Yat Sure Win was severely reprimanded and was advised that he must stop riding and straighten his mount when in similar circumstances in future.

Jockey W L Ho the rider of 8 Luen Yat Sure Win pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under the provisions of MJC Rule 132 (i) in that rounding the turn near the 1200 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in, resulting in 7 Golden Champ (J Cordero) being tightened for room, losing its rightful running and having to be checked. In laying the charge the Stewards acknowledged that prior to the incident 7 Golden Champ (J Cordero) had got its head up and raced ungenerously for a number of strides. Jockey W L Ho had his licence to riding races suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the meetings of Friday, 23rd October and Friday 30th October 2015. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his recent record, his guilty plea and the severity of the interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
