Race Report

RACE-1 THE ROTORUA RATING 30-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1500 METRES (37)

1 Golden Lion (A Calder) –Was marginally slow to begin and was then inconvenienced by 5 Strong Wind which shifted in. Leaving the straight on the first occasion had to be steadied to avoid the heels of 2 Delight Consul which shifted in when struck with the whip. Jockey C F Wong the rider of 2 Delight Consul was reprimanded and notified that he must show more care when in similar circumstances in future.
2 Delight Consul (C F Wong) –Raced wide without cover. Leaving the straight on the first occasion shifted in and away from 5 Strong Wind and was then placed in restricted room between that gelding and 6 Twiningoceanstarbo.
3 Great River (Apprentice K Y Wong) –Disappointing. Rider reported that his mount resented the kick back. A post race veterinary examination ordered by the Stewards failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Twiningoceanstarbo (W H Lao) –Jumped away awkwardly.
8 My Target (K H Yu) –Dipped after jumping away.
9 Golden Cornered (D Chong) –Approaching the 400 metres was held up when unable to improve its position.
10 Shadow Master (R Curatolo) –Prior to the event, Trainer S Chow informed the Stewards that he would be instructing the rider to ride his mount with cover tonight. Settled just off mid field with cover. Passing the 600 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of 7 Smart Ebony.
11 Cargo Money (W T Pao) –After passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be steadied off heels. Performed below market expectations. A swab was taken from the gelding and a post race veterinary examination ordered by the Stewards revealed that it was lame in the right foreleg. Trainer K H Leong was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary certificate is produced.
12 Windsor Arch Two (J Cordero) –Was marginally slow to begin. Raced wide without cover before obtaining the lead on the fence near the 800 metres.
