Race Report

RACE-2 THE OPUNAKE RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (38)

2 Speed Of King (L Corrales) – Had difficulty negotiating the first turn and as a result took 11 Tiger Exceed out of its course.
3 Race King (R Curatolo) –Raced wide without cover until obtaining a position closer to the rails after passing the 800 metres. Approaching the 400 metres had to shift out to avoid the heels of 8 Golden Fifty Six which was weakening. Poor performance. Rider reported that his draw was not favorable tonight and that his mount resented the kick back. A post race veterinary examination ordered by the Stewards failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Krun (M Cangas) –On arrival at the barrier was examined and found to be lame in the right foreleg. Acting on veterinary advice it was withdrawn by the order of the Stewards at 8:35pm. Trainer K Seo was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary clearance is produced.
5 Modena Favorite (B Yamzon) –Was held up for some distance after passing the 400 metres.
7 Hand By Hand (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Had a tendency to lay in in the back straight.
8 Golden Fifty Six (J Cordero) –Hung out rounding the home turn.
9 Florence Baby (L Salles) –Clipped heels near the 500 metres and lost ground. Disappointing. Rider reported that his mount stumbled on jumping away. A post race veterinary examination ordered by the Stewards failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 Tiger Exceed (C F Wong) –Was taken wider on the track rounding the first turn and then raced wide without cover before obtaining a position closer to the rails near the 800 metres.
12 Rusharound (W H Lao) –Jumped away awkwardly, lost ground and failed to make contact with the body of the field in the early stages. The rider explained that he had been instructed to ride the gelding further back tonight due to the wide barrier draw, to follow the pace and ride his mount out from the 800 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 500 metres when 9 Florence Baby (L Salles) appeared to clip heels and blunder. Jockey L Salles the rider of 9 Florence Baby explained that he was angling into a run to the inside of 6 The Precious Prime (H Lam) which shifted resulting in 9 Florence Baby clipping that gelding’s heels and blundering. Jockey H Lam the rider of 6 The Precious Prime reported that his mount may have laid in rounding the home turn however he was doing his very best to keep his mount straight and protect the riders to his inside. As the film footage was inconclusive, the Stewards were not of the opinion that a charge of careless riding against Jockey H Lam could be sustained, and he was advised that he must exercise the utmost care at all times in similar circumstances in future.
