Race Report

RACE-4 THE KOWLOON TONG RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1350 METRES (76)

1 Belgrade Nights (R Curatolo)
2 Cali Fortune (C F Wong) –Raced three wide without cover throughout before obtaining a position closer to the rails passing the 600 metres.
3 Grand Double Win (W H Lao) –Raced wide for the majority of the race. When questioned regarding the tactics employed on the gelding tonight explained that he was instructed to settle his mount where comfortable and he had received these instructions at its most recent starts. He added that rounding the first turn when behind runners his mount did not stretch out and he attributed this to it resenting the kickback. He further explained that for this reason on entering the back straight he elected to shift his mount wider on the track to avoid the kickback and his mount then stretched out and traveled well within itself and ran home well when placed under pressure rounding the home turn. He highlighted the fact that in his opinion the sand track going was better out wide than closer to the rail. His comments were noted.
6 Florence Elite (J Cordero) –Jumped away awkwardly.
8 Crowning Mission (W L Ho) –Raced wide before obtaining a position with cover near the 800 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:

On jumping away 11 Vowed To Run (H Lam), 10 Mission Fame (M Cangas) and 9 My Cup Of Tea (C Perkins) were hampered when tightened for room between 12 Golden Harbour (A Calder) which shifted in and 3 Grand Double Win (W H Lao). As a result 9 My Cup Of Tea and 10 Mission Fame lost ground. 3 Grand Double Win then had to be steadied to avoid the heels of 1 Belgrade Nights (R Curatolo) which shifted out before being straightened by its rider.

Jockey C F Wong the rider of 2 Cali Fortune pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the winning post he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of 8 Crowning Mission (W L Ho) which had to be restrained to avoid the heels of 2 Cali Fortune. Jockey C F Wong’s licence to ride was suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering 4th & 11th December 2015. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his good riding record, his guilty plea and the severity of the interference. He was advised of his Rights of Appeal.
