Race Report

RACE-1 THE QINGDAO RATING SPECIAL (SPECIAL) 1500 METRES (218)

1 Great China (W L Ho) –Was marginally slow to begin and then had to checked when tightened for room between 7 Modena Power and 2 Machmaster which shifted out.
2 Machmaster (L Corrales) –Leaving the straight on the first occasion was placed in restricted room to the inside of 8 Explosive Blast.
3 River Treasure (R Curatolo) –Jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground.
6 River Freedom (K W Leong) –Shifted out on jumping away and made contact with 7 Modena Power. Ran off rounding the first turn and hung out thereafter. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial and at which time it must race tractably. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Modena Power (C F Chan) –When questioned C F Chan the rider of 7 Modena Power which was eased down in the straight explained that the gelding was racing ungenerously throughout the event and its action got worse when put under pressure and for this reason he eased his mount in the straight as it was out of contingent.
8 Explosive Blast (A Aucharuz) –Approaching the 1300 metres had to be steadied off the heels of the riderless horse 12 Kao's Star. Poor performance. Rider reported that the gelding travelled well early, however did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 God Get People (Y M Choi) –Was resaddled behind the barriers. Shortly after the start was momentarily unbalanced when racing tight to the inside of 11 Golden Commandment.
11 Golden Commandment (W H Lao) –Shortly after the start, raced in restricted room between 9 God Get People and 4 Win Perfectly which was taken in by 5 Alway Better which shifted in before being straightened by its rider.
12 Kao's Star (J Cordero) –Jumped away awkwardly, striking the side of the gate, resulting in its rider become unbalanced and being dislodged shortly after the start. Subsequent to the event rider J Cordero was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and was passed fit to continue riding his remaining engagements.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards delayed Correct Weight to allow Jockey K K Lai the rider of 4 Win Perfectly (3rd placed horse) to view the patrol film. After viewing the patrol film, Jockey K K Lai lodged an objection against 3 River Treasure (R Curatolo), being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference in the straight. It was established that after passing the 300 metres 3 River Treasure shifted out and bumped 4 Win Perfectly, with both horses becoming unbalanced and that after passing the 300 metres 3 River Treasure again shifted out bumping 4 Win Perfectly which became unbalanced. Bearing in mind the manner in which both horses finished off the event and as the Stewards did not believe that the interference suffered by 4 Win Perfectly was greater than the beaten margin of 1 ¾ lengths, the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared.
At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey R Curatolo the rider 3 River Treasure was advised that he must exercise more care in future, particularly when his mount has given him an indication that it was racing greenly.
