Race Report

RACE-1 THE PUNE 2&3-YO RATING 55-0 (CLASS 4,5&6) 1200 METRES (273)

1 Cheerful Fish (Apprentice K Y Wong) –Rider was unable to offer any explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Destney (B Yamzon) –After jumping away was buffeted for a number of strides between 2 Prosperity Star and 7 River Dream. When questioned as to his actions in particular from the 500 metres until the entrance to the straight, rider B Yamzon explained that his mount was laying out and although he could have improved to the outside of 7 River Dream, that gelding was racing erratically in front of him and he was concerned that if he did attempt to improve to that gelding’s outside it would force him wider on the track. For these reasons he was content to wait until the run appeared between 6 Tous Sweet and 7 River Dream and when he placed his mount under pressure to improve into that run, 4 Destney did not let down as he would have expected and was one paced in the run to the winning post. He added that in this opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation and would benefit from a spell.
5 Lucky And Fortune (L Corrales) –Approaching the 400 metres was steadied to the inside of 8 Winner Fortune when attempting a run where there was insufficient room. Laid out in the straight.
6 Tous Sweet (A Aucharuz) –Was slow to begin (1L).
7 River Dream (L Salles) –Raced greenly in the home straight. Performed below market expectations. Rider reported in this opinion his mount could not handle today’s track condition.
A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken for analysis.
8 Winner Fortune (Y M Choi) –Dislodged its rider on the way to the barriers. Was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. Jockey Y M Choi was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and passed fit to ride. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of this gelding, Trainer K M Chin stated it was having its 5th race start today and therefore gaining experience with racing and also it may have been suited by the rain affected track condition.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Prior to “Correct Weight”, Jockey L Corrales the rider of 5 Lucky And Fortune, 3rd placegetter viewed the Stewards video patrol film before deciding not to lodge an objection against 8 Winner Fortune (Y M Choi), being declared the winner. After viewing the patrol films, the Stewards were satisfied that there were insufficient grounds for an objection and “Correct Weight” was declared.
