Race Report

RACE-1 THE CROWN'S MASTER RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (277)

1 Machmaster (W Smith)- Shortly after jumping away was brushed by 9 Luen Yat Command and became unbalanced. For a short distance at the 400 metres was held up when unable to improve its position. Shifted out near the 300 metres and brushed 6 Four Season Health. 2 Leader All The Way (W L Ho) –Was badly hampered as a result of a fall near the 1200 metres and was taken wider on the track.
5 Haayil Shadow (K W Leong) –Near the 1200 metres was hampered when avoiding the loose horse. Raced very keenly through the middle stages and raced wide for the majority of the event. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding which was well supported in the market, failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Rider was unable to offer any tangible explanation for its performance today.
6 Four Season Health (W H Lao) –Approaching the 1300 metres shifted out after improving up onto the heels of 8 Rivers Elite resulting in 7 Windsor Arch being tightened for room and steadied.
7 Windsor Arch (D Chong) –Jumped away awkwardly.
8 Rivers Elite (K H Yu) –Was marginally slow to begin.
9 Luen Yat Command (L Salles) –Rider L Salles explained that he had not been specifically instructed to lead today, however he was to take up a handy position from the favorable alley. He added that after beginning well, his horse obtained the lead without his urgings and did in fact race quite keenly in that position. Jockey L Salles highlighted that he was aware when doing his form prior to the race that the gelding performs better when ridden in a more forward position.
10 Simple Mind (L Corrales) –Approaching the 1400 metres had to be steadied when tightened for room between 12 Alway Better which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of 2 Leader All The Way and 7 Windsor Arch which shifted out slightly. Passing the 700 metres was steadied when placed in restricted room for a short distance.
11 Mission Fame (Y M Choi) –Was taken wide near the turn at the 1200 metres by 5 Haayil Shadow. When questioned Jockey Y M Choi explained that his mount was slow to begin and due to the pace to his inside he was unable to go forward early and he then struck interference near the1200 metres due to the fall back to his inside. This forced him very wide at that point, after which he was able to obtain a position with cover as instructed.
12 Alway Better (A Aucharuz) –Shortly after jumping away was bumped by 10 Simple Mind, shifted out slightly and then had to be steadied off the heels of 2 Leader All The Way. After passing the 1400 metres was steadied when awkwardly placed close to heels. Commenced to over race and near the 1200 metres galloped up onto heels, shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, then continued to over race badly in the back straight. Race three wide without cover from the 1000 metres. Trainer W T Lai was advised that due to the racing manners of 12 Alway Better today, the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed in an official Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Steward and at which time it must be tractable.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident at the 1200 metres where Jockey D Chong the rider of 7 Windsor Arch was dislodged. It was established that approaching the 1200 metres 12 Alway Better which had commenced to race very fiercely got its head up, after improving up onto heels despite the efforts of its rider to restrain the gelding, and shifted out abruptly resulting in 7 Windsor Arch which was racing back to that gelding’s outside clipping the heels of 12 Alway Better, dipping and rider D Chong being dislodged. In all the circumstances and in particular after taking into account the incident was caused by the poor racing manners of 12 Alway Better, and was not attributable to the careless actions of Jockey A Aucharuz, Stewards took no action against Jockey A Aucharuz however suspended 12 Alway Better from racing.
