Race Report

RACE-6 THE GUANGZHOU RATING 85-55 (CLASS 2) 1700 METRES (313)

1 Yang Jiang Star (W L Ho) –Threw its head when the gates were released and was then restrained across and behind the field to take up a position on the rail.
2 My Masterpiece (H Lam) –Knuckled badly on jumping away unbalancing its rider.
4 More Than Happy (W Smith) –Rider reported that in his opinion his mount did not appreciate the firm track today.
5 Northern Legend (A Aucharuz) –Was restless in its barrier stall and reared. Was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. Disappointing performance. Rider reported he had to make use of the gelding in the early and middle stages to maintain a forward position and this contributed to the gelding tiring over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 One Belt One Road (R Curatolo) – Jockey R Curatolo was questioned as to why he sat outside, and a neck in front, of the leader 5 Northern Legend. He advised that he had been instructed to lead, however that it was his intention to take a sit at the girth of which ever horse led in the event if his mount was unable to take an outright lead. He added that Trainer K H Leong was adamant when issuing instructions that he must lead because the gelding is one paced. Trainer K H Leong confirmed the instructions and added that 6 One Belt One Road has performed well in the past when able to lead on its own. Trainer K H Leong was issued with a reprimand and was notified that in future he must allow his jockeys flexibility when issuing instructions and that any instructions given do not bring himself into question. The Stewards also reminded Jockey R Curatolo of his responsibility to ride all his mounts in a manner so as to leave no room for query.
9 Wonder Holy (L Salles) –Raced very keenly in the back straight. From the 500 metres until after passing the 300 metres was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
10 Wyoming (B Yamzon) –Was held up from approaching the 400 metres until the entrance into the straight. Shortly after straightening was taken out slightly by 9 Wonder Holy and then clipped the heels of 4 More Than Happy which shifted in slightly, and blundered. In all the circumstances, the Stewards took no direct action, however advised all riders that they must exercise the utmost care at all times. At the 200 metres had to shift to the outside of 4 More Than Happy to obtain clear running. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
