Race Report

RACE-6 THE BACOLOD RATING 85-55 (CLASS 2) 1600 METRES (337)

3 Chairman's Vote (C F Chan) –When questioned as to why he settled further back today on the gelding which usually races in a forward position, Jockey C F Chan explained that two starts back on 13 May 2016, the gelding won when settled at the rear of the field. For this reason and bearing in mind that it was stepping up to 1600 metres today and with the speed that was drawn to his inside, the trainer was of the opinion that it would be in the best interest of 3 Chairman's Vote to be ridden more quietly in order to finish off the race. He added that he was of the opinion that 3 Chairman's Vote did not run out a strong 1600 metres and would be better suited to shorter distances. Jockey C F Chan was reminded of his obligation to inform the Stewards of any significant change in instructions. Trainer K C Tse was fined the sum of HK$1000 for his failure to notify the Stewards of the change of riding instructions on this occasion. When arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account that Trainer Tse was recently reprimanded for this offence.
4 Harbour Star (W L Ho) –Jumped away awkwardly. Raced keenly in the back straight and raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
5 More Than Happy (W Smith) – Approaching the 100 metres was brushed by 4 Harbour Star on two occasions.
6 My Masterpiece (H Lam) –Jumped away awkwardly unbalancing its rider.
7 Oh So Simple (L Salles) –Jumped away awkwardly. Rider reported that although in his opinion he was disadvantaged racing to the inside, he was disappointed with the gelding’s performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken from the gelding for analysis. Trainer K S Wong was informed that he would be required to present the gelding to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 17 July 2016.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored and prior to correct weight Jockeys L Corrales the rider of the 3rd placed getter 1 Pacers Bahhare, and B Yamzion rider of the 4th place getter 8 Nothing To Say viewed the Stewards patrol videos before deciding not to lodge objections. After viewing the films and taking into account the beaten margins and the proximity to the winning post, the Stewards were satisfied that there was insufficient ground for an objection and correct weight was declared. It was established approaching the winning post 4 Harbour Star (W L Ho) shifted in slightly resulting in 1 Pacers Bahhare being taken in and that gelding making contact with 8 Nothing To Say which became unbalanced. In all the circumstances, no action was taken however all riders were informed that they must exercise utmost care under similar circumstances in future.
