Race Report

RACE-6 THE SAGITTARIUS (TURF) RATING 55-0 (SPECIAL) 1500 METRES (355)

Jockey B Yamzon was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer following the running of Race 5 and was stood down from further riding engagements as he was suffering from cramp to his left leg. The Stewards gave permission for Jockey W Smith to be substituted as the rider of 1 Fortune Smiles.

1 Fortune Smiles (W Smith) –Raced three wide without cover.
2 Lucky And Healthy (W L Ho) –Trainer G Allendorf advised that in an attempt to finish off the race strongly, he would be instructing the rider to ride more quietly today and also to stay wider on the track as he believed the gelding does not race truly when placed in amongst runners. Settled in a mid field position.
3 Clown Master (C F Chan) –Short priced favourite. Performed below market expectation. A swab sample was taken from the gelding for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Bowl Lucky (M Cangas) -
5 Simple Mind (L Corrales) –For some distance approaching the 400 metres was held up when unable to improve its position. Approaching the 100 metres had some difficulty in obtaining clear running.
6 Great River (J Cordero) –Bounded in the air when the gates were released. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Concentration (R Curatolo) –Trainer S Chow advised that he would be instructing the rider to attempt to the settle the gelding mid field, if circumstances permit to enable it to finish off the race. He highlighted that in recent starts when leading the gelding had been failing to run on. Led and over raced.
