Race Report

RACE-1 THE OPAL RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1050 METRES (49)

4 Lucky Gladiator (K K Lai) –Jumped awkwardly. Rider reported his mount never travelled at any stage of the race and was unable to maintain a position closer to the field despite his urgings. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer J Lau was informed that in view of the gelding’s unsatisfactory performance tonight, it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an Official Barrier Trial.
5 Paulson (W Smith) –Reared on jumping away.
6 Captain Genuki (L Salles) –Jumped awkwardly. Rider reported that his mount only travelled fairly in the run and when placed under pressure in the home straight did not respond to his riding. He added in his opinion 6 Captain Genuki did not appreciate racing in the kickback in tonight’s race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Diamond Rocket (Y M Choi) –Jumped awkwardly.
9 Broadus (A Calder) –Raced wide without cover throughout.
10 Explosive Blast (A Aucharuz) –Raced wide rounding the home turn. Was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 11 Win Perfectly, 2nd placegetter, against 3 Wine Buddies (W L Ho) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from both riders L Corrales and W L Ho and having reviewed the official patrol film, it was established that near the 150 metres, 11 Win Perfectly which was shifting in was bumped by 3 Wine Buddies which shifted out slightly, resulting in 11 Win Perfectly becoming unbalanced for a short distance. As the Stewards were of the opinion that both horses were shifting ground at the point of the incident, they could not portion blame to anyone rider or horse and bearing in mind the beaten margin, the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared.
