Race Report

RACE-4 THE ADMIRALTY RATING 70+ (CLASS 1&2) 1050 METRES (58)

This race was rescheduled to start at 8:40pm, with the remaining races also being put back 5 minutes.

2 Best Of Luck (A Aucharuz) –Race wide without cover. Was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
3 Healthy Life (K K Lai) –Jumped awkwardly.
5 Central Station (L Salles) –As no other jockeys were available at the weight, the Stewards gave Jockey L Salles permission to ride the gelding at 119bs. At a subsequent inquiry, L Salles was fined the sum of HKD5,000 under MJC Rule 122 (iii) for having accepted a ride for which he was overweight. In assessing penalty the Stewards took into account Jockey L Salles’ recent poor record with regards to this rule. The Stewards questioned Jockey L Salles regarding the reasons he stop riding his mount from the 50 metres to winning post. He explained that near the 50 metres his mount had peaked on its run and he could also see 3 Healthy Life was shifting a significant amount of ground outwards under pressure. He added that due to these circumstances and also as he was of the opinion that he was in no danger of losing 3rd place, he elected not to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. After considering all of the circumstances in particular the amount of ground 3 Healthy Life had shifted out under pressure, the Stewards noted his explanation, however he was was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts fully to the line whenever possible.
6 Sheng Li Win (R Curatolo) –On entering the home straight was momentarily held up for clear running.
7 Yanson (Y M Choi) –Raced wide without cover.
9 Happy Prodigal Son (C F Chan) – Rider reported in his opinion his mount was reluctant to race in the kickback and did not feel right in its action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K C Chong was informed that as the gelding had been beaten in excess of 30 lengths it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
