Race Report

RACE-2 THE MANCHESTER RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (116)

1 Contented N Happy (L Corrales) –Near the 1400 metres was buffeted for a short distance between 7 River Sandtop which was taken in by 5 Stallion Treasure and 3 Winner Fortune which shifted out slightly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Rounding the home turn shifted out from around the heels of 7 River Sandtop to obtain clear running and bumped the hindquarters of 5 Stallion Treasure which was then inclined to shift in. Near the 300 metres was steadied when momentarily tightened for room.
3 Winner Fortune (R Maia) –Jumped awkwardly.
4 Great Party (A Aucharuz) –Leaving the 300 metres was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed on the heels of 3 Winner Fortune and continued to be held up until the 150 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Vigorous Momentum (B Yamzon) –Was slow to begin. Leaving the 1300 metres was steadied.
7 River Sandtop (K H Yu) –Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped 1 Contented N Happy. Jockey reported that he had to make use of the gelding in the early stages to obtain a forward position and in his opinion this had contributed in 7 River Sandtop failing to finish the race off as expected. A swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Haayil Shadow (W Smith) –Leaving the 1300 metres was checked. Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey W Smith was questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages, where after beginning well 8 Haayil Shadow settled towards the rear of the field. Jockey Smith stated this was the first time he had ridden 8 Haayil Shadow and he was instructed to have the gelding positioned worse than mid field. He stated he was further instructed that as the gelding only has a short finishing burst to try save his mount for the final 400 metres. He added that he was surprised at how well the gelding had jumped, however after considering the instructions he was issued, he elected to take hold of his mount and try to obtain a position worse than mid field in accordance with his instructions. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation.
9 Flying Team (A Calder) –Was slow to begin. Near the 1300 metres was steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 12 Golden Stallion. Over raced during the middle stages.
12 Golden Stallion (Y M Choi) –Was slow to begin.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 1300 metres whereby 6 Vigorous Momentum was steadied and 8 Haayil Shadow had to be checked. It was established that leaving the 1300 metres, 12 Golden Stallion was momentarily tightened for room by 4 Great Party which shifted in when not fully clear and when being eased 12 Golden Stallion shifted out resulting in 10 Windsor Arch Three being taken outwards tightening the running of 6 Vigorous Momentum which was steadied. A short distance later 8 Haayil Shadow had to be checked when tightened for room between 10 Windsor Arch Three which continued to shift out slightly and 11 Go Go Fish which shifted in. After considering all the circumstances the Stewards issued Jockey A Aucharuz the rider of 4 Great Party and Jockey R Curatolo the rider of 11 Go Go Fish with severe reprimands, in that they permitted their mounts to shift in when not fully clear. Furthermore, both riders were advised to ensure that they are sufficiently clear of other runners when shifting ground at all times.
