Race Report

RACE-6 THE REDCAR RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1350 METRES (309)

1 Fortune Master (Apprentice S Meneanen) –Was slow into stride.
2 Premier Choice (A Calder) – Checked at the 600 metres, Stewards inquiry. A swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Oriental Profit (W L Ho) –Blundered on jumping.
5 Wonderful Power (W Smith) –At the start was bumped by 7 River Pearl and was slow to muster speed. Thereafter hung out throughout the race.
7 River Pearl (C F Chan) – Jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped 5 Wonderful Power. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Chapman Bunbun (M Cangas) – On jumping its rider lost the use of his right stirrup iron which he failed to regain for the remainder of the race and tailed the field throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards delayed declaring “Correct weight” in order to review the video films of the start to ascertain whether 8 Chapman Bunbun (M Cangas) had been afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected, Jockey M Cangas lost the use of his right stirrup iron placing him at a significant disadvantage with 8 Chapman Bunbun being slowly away. The Stewards were satisfied that 8 Chapman Bunbun had been afford a fair start and declared correct weight.
At a subsequently inquiry, Jockey M Cangas pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of MJC Rule 125 in that as the rider of 8 Chapman Bunbun he had failed to ensure that his right stirrup leather was correctly attached to the saddle. He was fined the sum of HKD10,000 and advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards inquired into the reasons 2 Premier Choice (A Calder) checked at the 600 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey W L Ho the rider 3 Oriental Profit and Jockey A Calder. After viewing the video patrol film and considering all the evidence, the Stewards could not contribute blame to anyone rider, therefore no action was taken.
