Race Report

RACE-5 THE WESTERN AUSTRALIA RATING SPECIAL (SPECIAL) 1510 METRES (11)

1 My Dream (Y M Choi) -Raced wide without cover until approaching the 800 metres where it improved to the lead. Jockey Y M Choi was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding tonight in particular the reasons the gelding improved to the lead near the 800 metres which is in contrast to its recent racing pattern. Jockey Y M Choi stated that he was instructed to get a good jump and try to obtain a position midfield with cover if possible and to have the horse traveling where it was comfortable. He added that after a good jump, he was caught racing wide in the early stages and due to the average tempo of the race, he allowed 1 My Dream to stride forward and obtain the lead near the 800 metres. Trainer S H Cheong confirmed the instructions.
The Stewards noted both their explanations.
2 Hugo And Barry (W L Ho) -Jumped awkwardly. Near the 1200 metres over raced and was steadied away from the heels of 6 Gauteng.
3 Fortune Master (L Corrales) - Jockey L Corrales was issued with a reprimand for dropping his whip near the 100 metres.
4 Epinart (M Wepner) -Was slow it stride. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Fortune Smiles (O Chavez) -Near the 1200 metres momentarily raced in restricted room between 1 My Dream and 2 Hugo And Barry which when over racing was steadied and shifted out and away from the heels of 6 Gauteng. Considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards took no further action.
