Race Report

RACE-1 THE HAWKES BAY RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1200 METRES (37)

2 Autumn Cloud (K H Yu) -Was checked leaving the 400 metres. Was unable to establish clear running on entering the home straight until near the 250 metres when 7 Beautiful Creative shifted out around the heels of 3 Lucky Mate to improve. M Wepner the rider of 7 Beautiful Creative was issued with a severe reprimand and was advised that he is to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of other runners when shifting ground in future.
3 Lucky Mate (C F Chan) -Jumped awkwardly.
4 Nanhai One (W L Ho) -Was held up and unable to establish clear running from the 400 metres until near the 350 metres.
5 Bring Me Glory (W Smith) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
6 Heng Feng Star (K Leung) -Prior to the race, trainer S H Cheong advised the Stewards that he would be instructing Jockey K Leung to obtain the lead position should circumstances permit. Brushed with 7 Beautiful Creative on jumping away. Raced fiercely in the early stages.
7 Beautiful Creative (M Wepner) -Brushed by 6 Heng Feng Star on jumping away. Rider reported that his mount travelled well however when the pace of the race increased leaving the 600 metres, his mount was left flat footed and was very disappointing in the run to the finish line. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Tous Sweet (K K Lai) -Jumped awkwardly.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 400 metres whereby 2 Autumn Cloud had to be checked. Evidence was taken from Jockey K H Yu (rider of 2 Autumn Cloud), Jockey W Smith (rider of 5 Bring Me Glory) and Jockey M Wepner (rider of 7 Beautiful Creative). Jockey M Wepner pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 400 metres when riding his mount along, he permitted 7 Beautiful Creative to shift out when insufficiently clear of 2 Autumn Cloud which had to be checked. Jockey M Wepner’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 1 racemeeting to cover the meeting of 9 November 2018. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
