1 To's Family (W L Ho) -Near the 150 metres had to be checked.
4 Royal Garden (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Was slow to begin. Rounding the home turn and in the early stage of the home straight was held up and unable able to improve. Leaving the 250 metres attempted a run to the inside of 1 To's Family where there was insufficient room placing 4 Royal Garden in a vulnerable position and near the 150 metres had to be checked. Went to the finish line without being fully tested.
5 Thehorseiswithme (L Corrales) -A short distance after the start shifted out and had to be steadied off heels of 3 Winter Snow which shifted in marginally. After considering all the circumstances, in particular the shift outwards from 5 Thehorseiswithme, the Stewards took no further action. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had cast its right fore plate.
8 Mission Gdragon (O Chavez) -Was slow to begin.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into a racing incident where 1 To's Family and 4 Royal Garden had to be checked near the 150 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of horses 1 To's Family (W L Ho),2 Unselfish Trust (S Nakano), 4 Royal Garden (Apprentice C L Cheung) and 8 Mission Gdragon (O Chavez). It was established that leaving the 200 metres 8 Mission Gdragon shifted in under pressure and at the same time 2 Unselfish Trust was inclined to lay in and away from 8 Mission Gdragon and shifted in, resulting in 1 To's Family being tightened for room between 2 Unselfish Trust and 4 Royal Garden which had improved to its inside where there was insufficient room. Both 1 To's Family and 4 Royal Garden were checked in consequence. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards issued Jockey S Nakano the rider of 2 Unselfish Trust with a reprimand in that although his mount was inclined to lay in and away from 8 Mission Gdragon and he had taken some corrective measures, he should have attempted to correct his mount sooner that he had on this occasion. The Stewards also advised Jockey O Chavez the rider of Mission Gdragon that he would be expected to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future and to ensure he prevents his mount from shifting ground when unnecessary.
At a subsequent inquiry, Apprentice C L Cheung the rider 4 Royal Garden, in the presence of his Master, Trainer K M Chin pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i), the particulars being that leaving the 250 metres and until near the 150 metres he attempted a run to the inside of 1 To's Family where there was insufficient room placing his mount 4 Royal Garden in a vulnerable position and near the 150 metres had to be checked. Apprentice C L Cheung’s licence to ride in races was suspended for one racemeeting covering the meeting of Sunday, 12 May 2019. On application, the Stewards acceded to Apprentice C L Cheung’s request and he was issued with a momentary fine of HKD8,000 in lieu of one racemeeting. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Apprentice C L Cheung’s inexperience, his guilty plea, his record and the mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
