Race Report

RACE-4 THE CAMPINAS RATING 70-45 (CLASS 3) 1510 METRES (245)

1 Fortune Paradise (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Raced wide without cover leaving the 500 metres.
2 Ares Spear (L Corrales) -Rider reported after obtaining the lead in the early stages, he attempted to restrain 2 Ares Spear to allow runners to cross him in an endeavor to obtain cover, however due to runners to his outside easing their mounts, 2 Ares Spear was left in the lead position. He added his mount raced keenly in the middle stages and when placed under pressure in the home straight 2 Ares Spear responded briefly, however was only fair in the run to the finish. He further added in his opinion 2 Ares Spear performs better when able to obtain cover in its races.
5 Captain Fabulous (F Henrique) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K S Wong was informed that he would be required to present 5 Captain Fabulous to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 30 May 2020 and in addition 5 Captain Fabulous which had been beaten in excess of 38 lengths will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
6 Acing Pro (K H Yu) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Trophy Cabinet (D Barros) -Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. Rounding the home turn shifted in slightly when inclined to lay in under pressure and had to be steadied away from the heels of 3 Tuhao Choice which after laying in and becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of 7 Collateral Mission, shifted out after being over corrected by its rider W L Ho. Whilst the Stewards noted that 8 Trophy Cabinet was inclined to lay in at the point of the incident, nevertheless Jockey W L Ho the rider of 3 Tuhao Choice was advised to exercise more care when correcting his mounts in future. The Stewards questioned Jockey D Barros with regards to the tactics adopted on 8 Trophy Cabinet in particular the reasons after jumping away awkwardly, he allowed 8 Trophy Cabinet to stride forward wider on the track resulting in the gelding racing wide without cover for majority of the event. Jockey D Barros stated that he was instructed to have the gelding in 3rd or 4th position with cover should circumstances permit. He added that after jumping away awkwardly and to comply with his instructions he allowed 8 Trophy Cabinet to stride forward to the outside of 7 Collateral Mission as he was of the opinion that that runner would cross to the lead which would have afforded him the opportunity to race in behind that runner. He further stated that when 7 Collateral Mission did not cross to the lead, he was caught racing wide and added that in hindsight after jumping away awkwardly, he should have taken a position with cover in the early stages. The Stewards noted his explanation.
