Race Report

RACE-2 THE SOUTHWELL DIV2 RATING 35-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1500 METRES (32)

1 Cushie Butterfield (S Ladjadj) -Jumped away awkwardly.
2 Master Paradise (L Corrales) -Leaving the 300 metres momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of 1 Cushie Butterfield which was taken in slightly by 8 Thunder Bear which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. For a number of strides passing the 200 metres had to be steadied when tightened for room by 8 Thunder Bear which shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider. Jockey T Appie the rider of 8 Thunder Bear was issued with a severe reprimand and was advised that in similar circumstances in future, he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 River God Choi (C L Cheung) -Jumped away awkwardly.
5 Luen On Steed (Y M Choi) -Was slow to begin. On entering the home straight was disappointed for a run to the inside of 2 Master Paradise, was then eased and had to be shifted out around the heels of that runner to obtain clear running.
6 House Of Power (W L Ho) -Near the 1250 metres was eased momentarily away from the heels of 2 Master Paradise which was taken in by 1 Cushie Butterfield which was hanging in despite the efforts of its rider.
7 Luen On Warrior (J B Hamel) -In the early stages raced ungenerously and had a tendency to hang out and thereafter raced wide without cover until leaving the 600 metres. A post race veterinary examination revealed that 7 Luen On Warrior had suffered a bleeding attack. Trainer C W Choi was informed that the standard stand down period applies and before being permitted to race again, 7 Luen On Warrior will be required to pass an official Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards and a veterinary certificate must be produced.
9 Impeccable Genius (W H Lao) -Near the 250 metres was steadied and shifted out across the heels of 4 Luen On Prodigy to obtain clear running. Near the 150 metres, Jockey W H Lao was unable to use his whip for a number of strides when his whip became entangled in the rein whilst he was attempting change it to his right hand. Rider reported that he was instructed to lead if possible, however if unable to lead to try and obtain a position with cover. He added on jumping away, he rode his mount hard in the early stages to try and obtain the lead position, however as a number of runners drawn to his inside had shown superior speed, he elected to come back and take a position with cover in accordance with his instructions.
