Race Report

RACE-3 THE LANTAU RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1200 METRES (239)

1 Sweet Korean (R Curatolo) –Raced three wide without cover.
2 Florence Elite (C Perkins) –For some distance approaching and passing the 400 metres was unable to improve its position. Laid out rounding the home turn, then had to be switched back to the inside of 5 Rider Navigator to obtain clear running.
6 River Colour (L Salles) –At the 100 metres shifted out and brushed 5 Rider Navigator.
7 Highspot (A Aucharuz) –Was marginally slow to begin and was then bumped by 12 I'm Sincere and as a result lost ground.
9 Ideal Horse (A Calder) – Prior to the event, Trainer M C Tam advised the Stewards that he would be instructing the rider to have the gelding ridden further back today due to its wide alley. Was restrained from the start and ridden accordingly.
10 Destney (M Cangas) – Rider reported that the gelding had a tendency to hang out at various stages of the race and proved difficult to ride. A post race veterinary examination of 10 Destney which was disappointing failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
12 I'm Sincere (C F Wong) –The Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics adopted on the gelding. Initial evidence was taken from Trainer C Marshall and Jockey C F Wong. The inquiry was adjourned to Thursday, 5th May 2016 at a time to be determined. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer C Marshall was informed that he would be required to present the horse to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 1 May 2016.

INQUIRY:
Prior to Correct Weight, Jockey C F Chan rider of the third placed getter 4 My Favourites, viewed the patrol film following which he lodged an objection against 6 River Colour (L Salles) being declared the winner for alleging interference near the 700 metres. It was established that near the 600 metres 4 My Favourites attempted to improve to the inside of 6 River Colour where there was insufficient room and then had to be steadied. As the Stewards were of the belief that there was never a run for 4 My Favourites at the point, and that the interference was caused by rider C F Chan attempting to improve his position, the Protest was dismissed and Correct Weight was declared.
