Race Report

RACE-3 THE LEVERKUSEN RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1510 METRES (155)

1 Golden Commandment (K K Lai) – Jumped awkwardly and was then slow into stride. Raced wide without cover throughout.
2 Priceless Treasure (C F Chan) –Was resaddled behind the barriers.
5 Win Perfectly (M Wepner) –Near the 1400 metres was steadied when momentarily tightened for room by 2 Priceless Treasure which shifted in. Raced wide rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Big Success (L Salles) –Rider reported that his whip broke near the 100 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Rockin Laser (A Aucharuz) –Was slow to begin.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into Jockey L Salles riding of 7 Big Success (3rd placed getter) over the final 50 metres of the event. Jockey Salles stated that near the 100 metres his whip had broken and after riding his mount hands and heels he was of the opinion that his mount’s run had finished. He added after viewing the official patrol film, he was surprised at how far out from the finish line he had stopped riding his mount. After considering his evidence and reviewing the official footage, Jockey L Salles was charged under MJC Rule 132 (iii) in that he failed to ride 7 Big Success out and with sufficient vigour to the finish of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Jockey Salles pleaded guilty to the charge. His licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of five racemeetings to cover the meetings of 24th & 25th February and 3rd, 10th & 11th March 2017. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his good record in regards to breaches of this nature and the degree of the incident in that the Stewards were of the opinion it had cost 7 Big Success, 2nd place. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
