13 Dutch Shell (W H Lao) -Jumped away awkwardly and was then slow into stride. The Stewards questioned Jockey W H Lao the rider of 13 Dutch Shell regarding his riding over the final 50 metres, in particular the reasons he failed to ride his mount out fully to the finish. Jockey W H Lao stated that on entering the home straight, he tried to improve wider on the track, however his mount did not respond to his riding so he elected to shift back to the inside and place his mount under pressure. He added that leaving the 200 metres his mount responded to his riding and was finishing the race off strongly, however leaving the 50 metres when racing some distance behind 9 Gem Glory he could see that gelding weakening so he elected to eased his mount as he was concerned that if he continued to ride his mount at the rate at which it was closing the race off, he would have placed himself and his mount in an awkward position. After considering all of the evidence and reviewing the patrol films, whilst the Stewards noted his explanation on this occasion he was advised that in future, he is to ride his mounts fully to the finish of the race where possible and in a manner which leaves no room for query.
