Race Report

RACE-5 THE HONAN (DIV.2) RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1200 METRES (5)

1 Gem Steed (Y M Choi) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Kelvin's Choice (W L Ho) -Leaving the 1000 metres when the pace of the race slowed had to be steadied away from the heels of 7 Rivalry. Near the 900 metres had to be checked. Near the 100 metres had to be checked.
4 Mission Vision (S Nakano) -Jumped away awkwardly.
5 Oh So Easy (D Barros) -Jumped away awkwardly. Leaving the 1000 metres when the pace of the race slowed raced fiercely despite the effort of its rider and proved difficult to control for Jockey D Barros. As a result raced in restricted room for some distance when it improved into a run between 7 Rivalry and 1 Gem Steed where there was insufficient room. Continued to race ungenerously for some distance thereafter. Had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.
6 Heartgoodallwell (K K Lai) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
7 Rivalry (O Chavez) -Leaving the 200 metres had a tendency to shift out under pressure and again had a tendency to shift out under pressure leaving the 100 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the incident near the 900 metres where 2 Kelvin's Choice had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 1 Gem Steed (Y M Choi), 2 Kelvin's Choice (W L Ho) and 5 Oh So Easy (D Barros). It was established that leaving the 1000 metres the pace of the race slowed resulting in 5 Oh So Easy racing very fiercely and proved difficult to control for Jockey D Barros. It was then established that near the 900 metres 5 Oh So Easy, which continued to race fiercely despite the effort of its rider, improved into a run between 7 Rivalry and 1 Gem Steed where there is insufficient room and as a result shifted in resulting in 2 Kelvin's Choice having to be checked. After considering all of the circumstances and taking into account the racing manners of 5 Oh So Easy leading up to and at the point of the incident, the Stewards could not portion blame against Jockey D Barros the rider of 5 Oh So Easy however the Stewards placed a warning on 5 Oh So Easy in regards to its racing manners.

The Stewards inquired into the incident near the 100 metres where 2 Kelvin's Choice had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 7 Rivalry (O Chavez) and 2 Kelvin's Choice (W L Ho). Jockey O Chavez pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 100 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out when insufficiently clear of 2 Kelvin's Choice which had to be checked. Jockey O Chavez was suspended from riding in races for a period of one race meeting being Sunday, 29 September 2019. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, the degree of interference, the racing manners of his horse at the point of the incident, and his riding record. He was advised of his right to appeal.
