Race Report

RACE-4 THE HARROW RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1510 METRES (89)

2 Military Super (R Maia) - Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider reported due to the fast tempo in the early stages he settled further back than he had anticipated and was also obliged to race wide without cover. He added these circumstances and the addition of having to carry 130lbs in his opinion contributed to today’s poor performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer Y C Fung was informed that he would be required to present 2 Military Super to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Monday, 25 November 2019 for a through veterinary examination.
5 Hyshem (F Henrique) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Denzil's Choice (L Corrales) - Approaching the 100 metres had to be checked.
8 Magnapegasus (H Lam) -Jumped away awkwardly and was then bumped by 3 Bring Me Glory. Near the 1400 metres was eased when racing in restricted between 3 Bring Me Glory and 4 River Treasure which shifted in and away slightly from 7 Denzil's Choice.
10 One From Many (B Yamzon) -Leaving the 1400 metres momentarily raced in restricted room between 2 Military Super and 8 Magnapegasus which shifted out slightly.
12 Nanhai One (T Appie) -Was slow to begin.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident whereby 7 Denzil's Choice had to be checked approaching the 100 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 3 Bring Me Glory (O Chavez), 4 River Treasure (K H Yu), 6 Casino Mok (J B Hamel) and 7 Denzil's Choice (L Corrales). Jockey K H Yu the rider of 4 River Treasure pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the 100 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in when insufficiently clear of 7 Denzil's Choice which was taken in onto the hindquarters of 6 Casino Mok and had to be checked. Jockey K H Yu’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of one racemeeting covering the meeting of Saturday, 18 January 2020. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards inquired into the reasons 11 Benson returned to scales at 120.8lbs which is in excess of 2lbs over the declared weight of 118lbs. Evidence was taken from Trainer P Leyshan and Jockey S Ladjadj. Trainer P Leyshan stated that as he had two runners in the race, being 5 Hyshem and 11 Benson, he had assisted with the saddling of 5 Hyshem whilst his remaining staff attended to 11 Benson and prior to the runners entering the saddling paddock he did not have an opportunity to double check the saddling of 11 Benson. It was established that after the race, there had been a misunderstanding between Trainer P Leyshan and his stable staff when 11 Benson was being saddled up and a sponge and a towel were incorrectly added to the gear of 11 Benson. Trainer P Leyshan pleaded guilty to a charge under MJC Rule 121 (v) in that as the trainer of 11 Benson he was responsible for a towel and sponge being added to Jockey S Ladjadj’s gear without the permission of the Stewards. Trainer P Leyshan was issued with a fine of HK$2,000 and advised of his Right of Appeal. In determining penalty, the Stewards took into account Trainer P Leyshan’s guilty plea and the Stewards were satisfied that the gear were added in error. The Stewards were also satisfied that it had no affect on the overall placings of the race.
