Race Report

RACE-2 THE ROSEHILL RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (17)

2 Senior (Apprentice X C Liang) - Stewards questioned Apprentice X C Liang and Trainer W L Ho regarding the tactics adopted on 2 Senior. Trainer W L Ho explained that he instructed the rider to lead today and if he was unable to do so, to take a sit. He said that in his opinion and after viewing the film, the rider could possibly have made a greater effort to restrain 2 Senior in the back straight when it was evident that he would be unable to clear 3 Silent Hero which was racing to the inside of 2 Senior. He said in his opinion this was an error of judgment due to the inexperience of the rider. Apprentice X C Liang explained that he had anticipated crossing down to the fence rounding the turn into the back straight, however 3 Silent Hero improved quickly to his inside around the 1200 metres. He said he then restrained for a short distance with a view to let 3 Silent Hero go, but at that point 3 Silent Hero ceased to improve, so he commenced to push 2 Senior again as he thought it was an opportunity for him to again attempt to go forward to cross to the lead. He added that when he then rode forward to do this, 3 Silent Hero again made ground to his inside and he then attempted to steady his mount to take up a position alongside 3 Silent Hero. Stewards accepted Apprentice X C Liang’s evidence.
3 Silent Hero (S H Huang) - Raced fiercely through the early stages.
4 Yatholing (I Poullis) - Near the 250 metres, was disappointed for a run between 2 Senior, which was giving ground quickly, and 12 Lucky To Win and had to be checked from heels.
7 Wealthyness (R Maia) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Happy Cat (Apprentice Tesuri) - Marginally slow to begin and was then brushed by 9 Ronson and lost ground. From the 600 metres was held up when unable to improve, before shifting to the outside of 4 Yatholing and obtaining clear running passing the 400 metres. Hung in in the straight, proving difficult to ride.
10 Tian Shan Love (M Tanaka) - Shifted out slightly on jumping and then had to be restrained off the heels of 2 Senior which shifted in.
12 Lucky To Win (C Perkins) - Had to be checked off heels around the 1250 metres. (See inquiry report)

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
S Nakano pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that around the 1250 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of 12 Lucky To Win which had to be checked. S Nakano had his license to ride in races suspended for 1 race day, covering the racemeeting of Sunday 12 November 2023. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account mitigating factors including S Nakano’s very good careless riding record and the guilty plea. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
