Race Report

RACE-3 THE SUNNY BOY (TURF DIV. 1) RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1500 METRES (143)

2 Lucky Chariot (K F Choi) -Was slow to begin.
5 Hostwin Emperor (W H Lao) -Rider reported that nearing the 600 metres his mount which was losing ground, was making some respiratory noises and was unbalanced in the going. He thought that there was something amiss with the gelding therefore eased it out of the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. In view of the disappointing performance of 5 Hostwin Emperor, Trainers N Moore/G W Moore were informed to present the gelding for a thorough veterinary examination and endoscopic examination on Sunday, 10 March 2024.
7 Show Down(I Poullis) -Near the 150 metres was checked and lost ground. (See inquiry)
9 Golden Wai (K H Yu) -Was slow to begin.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into interference near the 150 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockey I Poullis the rider of 7 Show Down and Apprentice X C Liang the rider of 6 Ngwah Sweetheart in the presence of his Master Trainer J Lau. Apprentice X C Liang pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 150 metres he permitted his mount to shift out under pressure resulting in 7 Show Down being checked losing ground. After considering all the circumstances, Apprentice X C Liang was issued a fine of HKD7,000. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Apprentice X C Liang’s guilty plea, his riding record and the mitigation factors. He was advised of his right of appeal.
