Supplementary Report - Friday, 25 November 2022 – 12th Race Meeting
RACE-1 THE KOBE (Div.1) RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1350 METRES (58)
Stewards today resumed the inquiry that was opened and adjourned into the tactics adopted upon 8 Famous Rainbow (C L Cheung) from the entrance to the
straight until the 200 metres. Jockey C L Cheung stated that Famous Rainbow was wearing blinkers for the first time and it was his intention to settle in a forward
position. He said the gelding lacked the necessary pace to go forward and had to be urged along in the back straight to obtain a midfield position, and he suffered
some crowding around the 800 metres. He said that he commenced riding along and at the 600 metres got on to the back of 7 Wing Wo, which he thought would
take him into the race. He explained that at the entrance to the straight he was reluctant to come to the outside of 7 Wing Wo as he thought it might drift out and
for this reason he shifted to the inside of that gelding where he thought he would obtain clear running between that gelding and 5 Half Lamma Rainbow. He said
that run did not eventuate and he then shifted in further with a view to obtain a run between 5 Half Lamma Rainbow and 3 Wo Hero, however that run also did
not eventuate and as a result he had to steady from the heels of 5 Half Lamma Rainbow and come to the outside of that gelding where a run presented around
the 200 metres.
In all the circumstances, Stewards did not take any direct action against Jockey C L Cheung, however, they notified him that it was a significant error in judgement
in deciding not to come to the outside of 7 Wing Wo after entering the straight, an action that if taken would have afforded him an unimpeded run to the winning post.
They notified him that he must ride all his mounts in such a manner as to not leave any room for query.
