Race Report

RACE-5 THE CARDIFF RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (95)

3 Lionheart Man (H Lam) –Jumped away awkwardly resulting its rider becoming unbalanced. Pulled hard in the early and middle stages and raced three wide without cover. Disappointing. Rider reported that he had to use his mount up early to try and obtain a forward position, however was caught wide and his mount could not finish off the event as he would have hoped. A post race veterinary examination ordered by the Steward failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Only Pearl (C Perkins) –Raced very wide rounding the first turn.
8 Gem Fighter (L Corrales) –Was caught very wide without cover throughout the event. At the turn near the 1200 metres had to be steadied when placed in restricted room. Laid out rounding the home turn.
11 Double Success (W L Ho) –Was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on the arrival of the barrier and passed fit to run.
12 Fly With The Wind (B Yamzon) –Struck the outside gate on jumping away and lost ground.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Prior to correct weight R Curatolo rider of 3rd placegetter 7 Golden Fifty Six lodged an objection against 5 Turquoise Lucky (L Salles) being declared 2nd placegettter on the grounds of alleged interference inside the 150 metres. After considering all the evidence and viewing the patrol films, it was established that near the 50 metres 5 Turquoise Lucky shifted in taking 7 Golden Fifty Six in off its course resulting in that gelding having to be steadied. After taking into account the margin of ¾ of a length, the proximity to the winning post, the manner in which both horses finished off the event, Stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered was greater than the beaten margin and correct weight was declared. A later inquiry L Salles was reprimanded and advised he must stop riding sooner than he did on this occasion.
