Race Report

RACE-5 THE GOOD YEAR RATING 55-25 (CLASS 4) 1700 METRES (155)

3 Chinese Dragon (L Corrales) –Jumped away awkwardly. Performed below market expectations. Rider explained that his mount had travelled well in the early stages, however, was caught flat footed when the field sprinted from the 400 metres and that it worked home well to the line. He added that the gelding would be better suited to softer ground than that of today’s track. A post race swab was taken for analysis.
4 Rush'N Prince (Apprentice Y M Choi) – When questioned as to why he continued to press for the lead when his mount was unable to muster sufficient speed to cross 7 All Thrills, Apprentice Y M Choi explained that he had been given firm instructions to lead and that he was endeavoring to carry out those instructions. The Stewards advised Apprentice Y M Choi that it was detrimental to his mount’s chances to maintain the position that he did throughout the race and that in future he would be expected, if he was unable to obtain an outright lead comfortably, to make an effort to restrain his mount and settle at the girth of the leader thereby allowing his mount a respite through the middle stages.
6 Rivers Elite (L Salles) – Rider was severely reprimanded for accidentally dropping his whip near the 200 metres. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his recent good record.
7 All Thrills (W T Pao) –Reshod and inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to leaving for the barriers and passed fit to run. Struck the inside gate on jumping away. Was momentarily held up after passing the 400 metres behind 4 Rush'N Prince which was weakening.
8 Modena Success (A Calder) –Resaddled behind the barriers. Near the 400 metres was momentarily held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
9 Delight Consul (Apprentice K Y Wong) – Rider was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out hands and heels to the line whenever circumstances permit.
10 Strong Wind (C F Chan) –Was marginally slow to begin. Raced very keenly in the back straight.
