Race Report

RACE-4 THE NINGBO RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (173)

1 Gold Selection (W L Ho) –Jumped away awkwardly. Disappointing performance. Rider reported that the gelding got further back than anticipated and did not finish off its race as expected. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Blaze Smartie (A Aucharuz) -Disappointing performance. The rider reported that after leaving the back straight, the gelding began to make a respiratory noise and did not respond to his riding as a result he eased the gelding down in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M C Tam was informed that he would be required to present the gelding to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 28th February 2016.Trainer M C TAM was further informed that the gelding will be required to perform competitively to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
6 Tiger Exceed (W H Lao) –Raced four wide without cover.
8 Modena Power (C F Chan) –Dwelt when the gates were released and lost ground. Was then unable to muster speed and tailed the field before making ground in the straight. Trainer K Seo was notified that a warning was being placed on 8 Modena Power and should it perform in a similar manner in future, action may be taken.
11 Modena Creation (C Perkins) –Bounded in the air when the gates were released and lost ground.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Jockey C F Wong rider of 3 The Precious Prime pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of MJC Rule 132 (i) in that after passing the winning post on the first occasion, he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in resulting in 10 Galaxy Dragon (L Corrales) being taken in onto 1 Gold Selection (W L Ho) which was tightened between that gelding and 7 Son Of Unicorn (K K Lai). As a result 10 Galaxy Dragon was hampered, 1 Gold Selection was tightened for room and had to be checked and 7 Son Of Unicorn became unbalanced after having its hindquarters turned. Jockey C F Wong’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the meetings of 11th & 12th March 2016. In assessing penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his good record, the degree of the interference and that he made some effort to straight his mount after the tightening had occurred. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
