Race Report

RACE-5 THE MILWAUKEE RATING 95-70 (CLASS 1&2) 1500 METRES (265)

3 Advance Mission (L Salles) –A post race veterinary examination of the gelding which performed below market expectations failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken from the gelding for analysis.
4 Oh So Easy (R Curatolo) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Pacers Bahhare (L Corrales) –Refused to proceed to the start resulting in its rider dismounting and the gelding being led to the barrier. Trainer K S Wong was notified that 5 Pacers Bahhare is now suspended from racing until such time that it performs to the satisfaction of the Stewards in the barrier trial at which time it must proceed to the barriers with the rider mounted. Jumped away awkwardly and then steadied when tightened for room between 7 Basement and 2 The Whirlwind both of which shifted ground.
8 Easy Money (C F Chan) –Raced three wide without cover. Poor performance. Rider reported that his mount was not suited by the fast tempo in the early stages and in his opinion 8 Easy Money will be better suited in race over shorter distances. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards questioned Jockeys L Salles rider of 3 Advance Mission and R Curatolo the rider of 4 Oh So Easy, into the tactics adopted on their respective mounts, particularly from leaving the straight on the first occasion until the 600 metres. Jockey L Salles explained that it had been his intention to let 4 Oh So Easy take the lead ahead of him so he would take a sit behind that gelding. However when 4 Oh So Easy obtained a position a neck in front of him to his outside, it slowed up, which caused his own mount to commence badly over racing and he was unable to restrain his mount any slower. Jockey R Curatolo explained that he was instructed to lead on his mount and let it roll. For this reason although he was unable to lead outright, he was content to maintain his position to the outside of 3 Advance Mission and a neck in advance of that gelding. The Stewards severely reprimanded Jockey R Curatolo and advised him that in their opinion lacked judgment and that in future he would be expected to restrain his mount back to the girth of the inside horse which would then give his mount an opportunity to settle and become balanced and allow it the chance to finish off the event.
