Race Report

RACE-2 THE SHATIN RATING 40-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1800 METRES (164)

1 Vancouver Jaguar (L Corrales) -Near the 100 metres was bumped on two occasions by 6 Golden Victory with Jockey L Corrales becoming severely unbalanced in the saddle and losing the use of his left stirrup iron. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Beauty Princess (J Pescuiso) -Raced fiercely in the middle stages. Near the 450 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 5 Rainbow Achievers which was yielding ground quickly. 10 My Golden Boy and 11 Fort Idaho which were following were hampered in consequence.
3 Poker King (B Yamzon) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Rainbow Achievers (Y M Choi) -Dislodged rider on the way to the barriers. Was immediately recaptured and on arrival at the barriers was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. Jockey Y M Choi was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and passed fit to continue riding. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Golden Victory (W L Ho) -Was slow to begin. Was inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight and near the 100 metres bumped with 1 Vancouver Jagua on two occasions.
8 Taolu Expert (R Maia) -Leaving the 1200 metres raced up onto the heels of 4 Anak and shifted out. Raced wide without cover thereafter. Near the 800 metres had to be steadied off the heels of 4 Anak which shifted out marginally.
9 Highspot (S Nakano) -Near the 700 metres momentarily raced in restricted room and was eased between 10 My Golden Boy and 1 Vancouver Jaguar which shifted in marginally.
10 My Golden Boy (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Hampered near the 450 metres when 5 Rainbow Achievers was yielding ground quickly.
11 Fort Idaho (W Smith) -Was slow to begin. Hampered near the 450 metres when 5 Rainbow Achievers was yielding ground quickly.
12 Go Go Fish (H Lam) -Near the 500 metres had to be checked off the heels of 5 Rainbow Achievers which was yielding ground quickly. Near the 150 metres rider dropped his whip and lost the use of his left rein which he regained shortly after. Jockey H Lam was issued a severe reprimand for dropping his whip near the 150 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the Enquiry Sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards the opportunity to review the patrol film to establish if there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf of the connections of 1 Vancouver Jaguar, the 5th placed horse ridden by Jockey L Corrales, against 6 Golden Victory (W L Ho) which was placed 3rd for interference near the 100 metres. After reviewing the patrol films both Jockey L Corrales and the Stewards were satisfied that there were insufficient grounds to warrant an objection and Correct Weight was declared.

The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 100 metres where Jockey L Corrales became severely unbalanced in the saddle and lost the use of his left stirrup iron. Evidence was taken from Jockeys L Corrales the rider of 1 Vancouver Jaguar and W L Ho the rider of 6 Golden Victory. Jockey W L Ho the rider of 6 Golden Victory pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 100 metres he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in resulting in 6 Golden Victory making contact with 1 Vancouver Jaguar resulting in Jockey L Corrales becoming severely unbalanced in the saddle and lost the use of his left stirrup iron. Jockey W L Ho’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 1 racemeeting covering the meeting of Friday, 8 March 2019. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his good riding record, the racing manners of his mount at the point of the incident and the degree of carelessness. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
