Race Report

RACE-4 THE BLAKENEY RATING 70-40 (CLASS 2&3) 1800 METRES (301)

1 Handsome Alloy (Apprentice A Liu) - Turned its head as the start was effected and lost ground (1L).
2 Luen On Poseidon (M Tanaka) - Blundered badly at the start and bumped 6 Armed. As a result the rider lost his left iron before regaining use of his iron a short distance later.
5 Yuanno (N Rawiller) - Commenced very awkwardly. Making the crossing near the 1350 metres, was taken wider by 3 Subtle Mind which shifted out slightly. Performed below market expectations. Rider stated that the gelding was under pressure from the 1200 and he eased it down in the straight as he was of the view that something may have been amiss with it. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Beaten 36 lengths. Trainer Y C Fung was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. The trainer was also informed that he would be required to present 5 Yuanno to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Monday, 31 July 2023.
6 Armed (C Perkins) - was bumped by 2 Luen On Poseidon at the start and became unbalanced.
7 Everlasting Goal (W H Lao) - Passing the winning post on the first occasion, had to be restrained from heels of 6 Armed when the pace slackened.
11 Galaxy Warship (K H Yu) - Shifted out when jumping away and brushed 7 Everlasting Goal which had shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Checked after passing the winning post on the first occasion. (See inquiry report)
12 Bewarethewag (K F Choi) - A post race veterinary examination at the request of the rider failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Stewards inquired into an incident passing the winning post on the first occasion. C Perkins, rider of 6 Armed, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132(i) in that while restraining his mount, he permitted it to shift in when not clear of 11 Galaxy Warship, resulting in 11 Galaxy Warship having to be checked to avoid the heels of 6 Armed. In laying the charge, Stewards acknowledged that 11 Galaxy Warship had made ground to the inside of 6 Armed. C Perkins had his license to ride in races suspended for 2 race days, covering the race meetings of Friday, 18 August and Sunday, 20 August 2023. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the level of carelessness and interference, the guilty plea and C Perkins’ riding record. He was advised of his rights of appeal.
