Race Report

RACE-1 THE CHARLOTTE RATING 70-45 (CLASS 3) 1500 METRES (224)
1 Sixth Sense (F Henrique) -Was slow to begin and was then slow into stride losing ground in the early stages.
2 The Moon's Back (J B Hamel) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Chromium Alloy (H Lam) -Raced wide rounding the home turn.
5 Fortune Paradise (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Raced wide with cover throughout. The Stewards questioned Apprentice C L Cheung the rider of 5 Fortune Paradise with regards to his riding in the early stages of the home straight, in particular with regards to his lack of vigor. Apprentice C L Cheung stated that from the awkward draw he was instructed by Mr. K M Chin his Master and trainer of 5 Fortune Paradise, to obtain a position just behind the speed if circumstances permit and as his mount has a short sprint, in the home straight he was to gradually build up the gelding’s momentum before placing it under full pressure. He added that after racing wide with cover, he secured clear running on entering the home straight and in an attempt to comply with his instructions, he began to build the gelding’s momentum hands and heels until approaching the 200 metres where he then placed 5 Fortune Paradise under full pressure and applied the whip, however 5 Fortune Paradise failed to respond to his riding and was somewhat disappointing in the run to the finish. Trainer K M Chin confirmed the instructions and added that 5 Fortune Paradise is a horse that performs best when brought into the race with one sprint. He further added that after viewing the films, he was satisfied with the ride of Apprentice C L Cheung given the extra ground 5 Fortune Paradise had to cover during the race. However in hindsight, Apprentice Cheung could have placed 5 Fortune Paradise under pressure sooner than he did. Trainer K M Chin however, pointed out that 5 Fortune Paradise did not respond to Apprentice C L Cheung’s riding when placed under full pressure approaching the 200 metres and appeared to be one paced. After considering all of the circumstances, whilst the Stewards noted both their explanations, Apprentice C L Cheung was reminded of his obligations to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query as the Stewards concurred with Trainer K M Chin’s evidence in that Apprentice Cheung could have placed his mount under full pressure sooner than he did on this occasion. Trainer K M Chin was also advised to exercise more care when issuing instructions to his jockeys and to ensure his instructions are more specific and will not leave his runners being ridden in a manner open to query. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Collateral Mission (W H Lao) -Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.
7 Fortune Generation (D Barros) -Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 700 metres was inclined to lay out under pressure.
8 Modena Best (L Corrales) -Leaving the 300 metres was disappointed for a run to the inside of 12 The Macallan which was shifting in under pressure and as a result was shifted out around the heels of that runner to obtain clear running.
9 Red Phoenix (K H Yu) -Rounding the first turn raced fiercely for a short distance. Approaching 900 was bumped by 4 Eclair Hunter which shifted in when racing tight to the inside of 5 Fortune Paradise.
10 Pearl Lucky (B Yamzon) -Jumped away awkwardly. Leaving the 500 metres raced up onto the heels of 8 Modena Best and had to be steadied. On entering the home straight was held up for a short distance. A post race swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 Imperial Eagle (M Tanaka) -Rounding the first turn near the 1200 metres had to be eased away from the heels of 7 Fortune Generation which shifted in when not quite clear. Jockey D Barros the rider of 7 Fortune Generation was issued with a severe reprimand and advised him to ensure he is sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground in future. Raced wide without cover leaving the 700 metres.
