2 Bygone Era (M Tanaka) - Leaving the straight on the first occasion, was taken out slightly by 3 Fasuba which shifted out marginally. Then made contact with the hindquarters of 1 Desi Prince, turning that gelding inwards and as a result, had to be checked. As Stewards believed there were several contributing factors to this incident, no action was taken, however all riders were notified to do their utmost to protect their fellow riders at all times.
4 Hostwin Achilles (W H Lao) - Leaving the straight on the first occasion, had to be checked away from heels of 2 Bygone Era.
5 Bravo Cyclone (K H Yu) - Difficult to load and after being placed in barrier stall became fractious. Was removed from the barrier stall, vetted and passed fit to run. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
8 City Gold (C Perkins) - When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on 8 City Gold, Jockey C Perkins stated that he had been instructed to go forward but to stay out of the kickback which the gelding has a history of resenting. He said that it was unable to take up a forward position due to the quick tempo, and that after being crossed turning out of the straight, his mount refused to stretch out. He said that he raced wide in the back straight to comply with his instructions to avoid kickback, and he was urging his mount along, slapping it with the whip throughout but it never responded to his riding. He added that it was not until after straightening when 8 City Gold started to make up some ground. Stewards notified Jockey C Perkins that whilst understanding that he was complying with instructions to stay wide, he did have the opportunity in the back straight, when he was a significant distance from the field, to shift closer to the rail in an endeavor to save ground and he must ride all his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for question.. Trainer J Lau confirmed the instructions given and noted that 8 City Gold was up against a stronger field tonight which may have been detrimental to its chances. He added that the gelding maybe retired after tonight’s performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer J Lau was informed that 8 City Gold will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
