Race Report

RACE-1 THE SAO PAULO RATING SPECIAL (SPECIAL) 1500 METRES (157)

1 Holy Ascension (W H Lao) –Raced wide without cover before obtaining a position closer to the rail near the near the 600 metres.
2 Golden Fifty Six (C F Chan) –Became unbalanced when tightened leaving the straight on the first occasion.
3 Florence Baby (C Perkins) –Trainer K H Leong was issued with a HK$1000 fine for presenting the gelding in the mounting yard with incorrect gear. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion jumped a light reflection on the track. Near the 1200 metres had to be checked when tightened for room between 9 Tornado Force and 6 Double Success both of which shifted ground.
5 Luen Yat Command (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Near the 400 metres had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between 3 Florence Baby and 6 Double Success. Performed below market expectations. Rider reported that he was caught wide throughout and unable to gain cover and the horse failed to respond to his riding from the 400 metres.
6 Double Success (W L Ho) –Passing the winning post on the first occasion, jumped a light reflection on the track and baulked.
7 Son Of Unicorn (M Cangas) –Jumped away awkwardly, struck the inside gate and lost ground. Over raced badly through the early and middle stages. Trainer J M Moore stated that it was not his specific instruction to attempt to lead tonight, however as the gelding has a history of over racing he advised the rider that if 7 Son Of Unicorn commenced to race fiercely to let it stride comfortably rather than fight the gelding.
9 Tornado Force (J Cordero) –A post race veterinary examination of 9 Tornado Force which gave ground quickly from the 400 metres failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Rider explained that his mount did not muster early speed, got further back than anticipated and failed to respond from the 600 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident where approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion 4 Gem Fighter (L Corrales) and 1 Holy Ascension (W H Lao) were tightened for room and had to be checked and 2 Golden Fifty Six (C F Chan) was tightened for room and became unbalanced after 6 Double Success (W L Ho), which was racing to the outside of 4 Gem Fighter, jumped a light reflection on the sand surface, shifted in and steadied abruptly. Shortly after this 6 Double Success again got its head up and baulked at another light reflection.
The Stewards and duty officials monitored the track for the remainder of the meeting, however, no further light reflection was detected.
