Race Report

RACE-1 CHARITY RATING MAIDEN () 1200 METRES (194)
This race was rescheduled to start at 2:05pm.

1 Court Achiever (L Salles) – Was resaddled behind the barriers.
2 River Control (K W Leong) –Near the 700 metres was brushed by 8 Zirconium Alloy and became momentarily unbalanced. Rider was dislodged on pulling up and following an examination was stood down by the Club’s Medical Officer from further riding engagements. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Rider was queried regarding the tactics he adopted upon the gelding, in particular as to why the stable mate 5 River Freedom was afforded a run to his inside near the 600 metres. Jockey K W Leong explained that his mount was only having its 2nd race start today and its first start on the turf track and was somewhat unbalanced and running about on the heavy track conditions. He further explained that his mount received buffeting approaching the 600 metres at which time he was in a one off position and shortly after this when racing tight 2 River Control shifted out abruptly which allowed 5 River Freedom to improve to his inside. He was then obliged to race three wide from that point. He further added that his mount continued to race somewhat greenly due to inexperience and the track condition and will benefit from today’s run. The Stewards noted his comments.
3 Son Of Unicorn (M Cangas) –Disappointing performance. Rider explained that he had been instructed to ride the colt in a more forward position, however he was caught wide and did not finish off as expected in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 River Freedom (J Cordero) –Shifted out slightly on jumping away and brushed 2 River Control and lost some ground. Had to be steadied off heels near the 800 metres. Performed below market expectations. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality and a swab sample was taken for analysis. The Stewards questioned Jockey J Cordero with regards to the improved performance of the gelding today compared to its most recent run where 5 River Freedom beat only one runner home. He explained he had been issued similar instructions as he was at the gelding’s last start on 13th of February 2016, however on that occasion 5 River Freedom received interference at the start which placed him further back than anticipated, then it had hung out rounding the home turn proving difficult to ride. Jockey Cordero further explained that 5 River Freedom was able to obtain a more forward position today after beginning well and raced far more tractably and further he believed it was suited by today’s heavy track conditions. Jockey Cordero comments were noted for future references.
6 I'm Sincere (C Perkins) –Jumped away awkwardly and then became unbalanced after being bumped heavily by 10 Safe Gold Baby which shifted out and away from 12 Windsor Arch Two.
7 Lucky And Fortune (K K Lai) –Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Passing the 600 metres was inconvenienced and taken out off its course by 3 Son Of Unicorn which was taken out by 8 Zirconium Alloy which shifted out and away from 2 River Control.
8 Zirconium Alloy (W H Lao) –Dipped shortly after the start. Approaching the 700 metres
became unbalanced after being brushed by 3 Son Of Unicorn which shifted in slightly.
Poor performance.A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
Rider reported that his mount did not handle today’s track conditions. Trainer C F Chan was
informed that 8 Zirconium which was beaten in excess of 58 lenghts will be required to trial to
the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial before racing again.
9 God Get People (D Chong) –Was marginally slow to begin and then became very unbalanced and had to be checked off the heels of 11 Best Double after being bumped by 3 Son Of Unicorn. As a result of this inside 9 God Get People lost significant ground.
12 Windsor Arch Two (C F Wong) –Approaching the 1000 metres had to be steadied when taken out off its course by 2 River Control which shifted out before being straightened by its rider.
